Linking to Library Resources

This guide explains how to get permanent URLs to library resources that can be shared via Canvas, email, or other systems.

Finding Permanent URLs in Alexander Street Press Databases

Many of the over 40 Alexander Street Press databases in the Database A-Z List have varying interfaces. The instructions below will work for Alexander Street Press databases that display an Alexander Street Press logo at the top of their homepages. However, some Alexander Street Press databases have been moved onto a ProQuest-branded interface (ProQuest is the parent company of Alexander Street Press), while others have their own unique interfaces (such as Academic Video Online, which cross-searches many different video collections). Please see the appropriate tabs to the left for information on how to find permanent URLs for those resources.

1) Locate the item that you want to share in the appropriate Alexander Street Press database. The example below is a search for "Emancipation Proclamation" in The American Civil War: Letters and Diaries database.

2) Click on the title of the item you wish to share to be taken into the full record.

3) Click the "Embed/Link" option in the toolbar that often displays above the work in the full record. However, please note that for some databases, this toolbar may display below the content, such as in video databases like Counseling and Therapy in Video Volumes I-V.

4) The permalink will display in the middle of the screen and can be copied, pasted, and shared.
