Citation Management Tools

This guide will help you learn how to use Endnote, Zotero, and Mendeley, three citation management tools that can help you keep your sources organized and generate citations.

Cite while Writing in Microsoft Word

Use Mendeley Cite add-in for Microsoft Word to generate citations and bibliographies, with these key features:

  • Find and insert individual or multiple references, and generate a bibliography of all cited references.
  • Edit citations directly within your document.
  • Select from thousands of citation styles to match your preferred format.
  • Refresh references to sync updates made in your Mendeley library.
  • Use Mendeley Cite without Mendeley Reference Manager being open or installed

Mendeley Cite is compatible with Microsoft Word 2016 or later on Windows and Mac, Microsoft Online, Microsoft Office 365, and the Microsoft Word app for iPad.

Once the plug-in is installed: Open Word, go to the Reference Tab, Choose Mendeley Cite, and sign into your Mendeley account.

See the Mendeley Cite guide for detailed instruction on using this tool in Microsoft Word.
