Citation Management Tools

This guide will help you learn how to use Endnote, Zotero, and Mendeley, three citation management tools that can help you keep your sources organized and generate citations.

Searching and Adding References Online

Search for articles using keywords, article title, authors' names, or journal publication. Use filtering options on the left side to narrow down your search results.

Under the reference of interest, click 'Add to library' to add the article to your Mendeley Reference Manager.

Building your Mendeley Library

In the online or desktop version of Mendeley Reference Manager, you can import references by:

  • Importing files from your computer
  • Dragging and drop PDFs from your computer
  • Manually creating an entry

Option 1: Click  on the top left to access import options for file(s), folder(s), or a reference library (BibTex, Endnote, or RIS files).

Option 2: Drag and drop a PDF into the Mendeley Reference Manager window. Mendeley will automatically extract the details from the document and create a library entry. For a folder containing multiple papers, Mendeley will create library entries for PDFs.

Option 3: Add reference manually from the drop-down menu.
