News Websites and Memberships

This guide will help Chapman students, faculty, and staff understand how to gain website access to news websites to which the university subscribes.

NYTimes.com

Chapman University provides access to the New York Times website in two ways:

  • Through a subscription provided by the Student Government Association for students.
  • Through a subscription provided by the Leatherby Libraries for faculty and staff.

Both subscriptions provide full access to the New York Times website as well as the mobile apps, so content can be read anywhere from any device after registration. However, these subscriptions do not provide access to the Cooking or Crosswords sections or the e-reader edition.

How to register for students

In Fall of 2017, Vice President Sarah Tabsh worked to provide all students with a free subscription to the New York Times. This subscription provides students with more resources for research, with access to unlimited articles, Spanish and Mandarin Chinese versions of nytimes.com, and mobile apps for phones and tablets to keep students up to date with today's news. To subscribe, visit https://nytimesineducation.com/access-nyt/ and search for "Chapman University - Orange, CA (Student Only)".

Students will maintain access until they graduate.

How to register for faculty and staff

  1. First-time users must first set up an account at https://nytimesineducation.com/access-nyt/.
  2. Search for "Chapman University" and select the option for “Chapman University News – Orange, CA (Faculty Only)”.
  3. Follow the steps to register for a new account or log in with a pre-existing profile. There will be separate links to click depending on whether you are on or off campus.
  4. After setting up an account, faculty and staff will then be able to access the New York Times website via https://libguides.chapman.edu/new_york_times or https://www.nytimes.com/ (once signed in).

The subscription includes access to news, subscriber-only newsletters, NYTimes.com/edu curricular resources, the mobile apps, the New York Times Audio app (iPhone only), and 10 gift articles per month.

Faculty and staff must renew once every four years. It is recommended that you add your pass expiration date to your calendar, as the NY Times will not send a reminder.
