Information Literacy Assessment

This guide is to assist in the development of tools to assess information literacy

Threshold Achievement Test for Information Literacy (TATIL)

The Threshold Achievement Test for Information Literacy (TATIL) is one of the newest information literacy assessments available to educators for use in the college classroom. TATIL addresses the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education, and it maps the six frames onto four modules. The available modules are:

  • Module 1: Evaluating Process & Authority
  • Module 2: Strategic Searching
  • Module 3:Research & Scholarship
  • Module 4: The Value of Information

TATIL is a web-based assessment that uses a multiple-choice question format. Each individual module is designed to be completed by a student in a 50-minute class period.

Potential program learning outcomes can be gleaned from the Knowledge Practices of the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education and the ACRL Information Literacy Competency Standards, which are described in detail on this guide.

TATIL is new, and the institutions which have adopted it have yet to publish peer-reviewed articles. A number of institutions, including CSU-Dominguez Hills, Emporia State University, and Palomar College have adopted TATIL.

More information about TATIL is available here.
