Chemistry Data and Background Information

SciFinderⁿ is one of the most comprehensive databases for chemical literature, but other databases also exist:

  • PubChem
An open database of chemicals and their activities against biological assays maintained by the United States National Institutes of Health.
  • Web of Science
Database of scholarly literature and indexes in the sciences, social sciences, arts, humanities, and other academic disciplines.
  • ChemSpider
Free chemical structure database providing chemical structure search and literature references from hundreds of data sources.
  • NIST Chemistry WebBook
Standard chemical reference database from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) providing thermochemical, thermophysical, and spectral data (i.e, IR, MS, UV).
  • NIST Elemental Data Index
Basic information about periodic table elements (i.e, atomic spectroscopic data, x-ray and gamma ray absorption data, nuclear physics data, etc.).
  • Organic Chemistry Portal
Overview of recent topics, interesting reactions, and information on important chemicals on important chemicals for organic chemists.
